Hot Spot Policing

Dear Residents,

We are pleased to inform you that Oakengates is now a hot spots policing area, which means there will be increased patrols around Oakengates Town. 

Hot spots policing is a strategy introduced by the Home Office for reducing crime. It targets resources and activities in specific locations.  Officers and PCSO’s spend short, unpredictable periods of time in a concentrated area, on high visibility patrols, in order to increase the perceived risk for offenders.

Studies show that focusing on hot spots can lead to significant reductions in crime and antisocial behaviour. In addition to reducing crime, increased visibility in hot spots can help reassure members of public in areas where they may feel vulnerable.
